Above is the photo I took at the AGM of Paul Welch handing over the cheque to John Kirkland for £600 as the residue from the Year for Youth which was set up during the darkest years at Gillingham to pay for kit and equipment for our upcoming Youth Team. It is now thought that the club's set up is such that we will not be called upon any time soon to contribute in the same way and the trustees of the Year for Youth voted to terminate the fund with immediate effect.
The Supporters' Club committee will consider how this amount will be utilised and put suggestions to our members for their consideration. We don't want it to be swallowed up in the general funds.
Also above is picture of John Hewitt and myself with Darren Balkham wearing the Supporters' Club regalia. In my memory it is the first time that we have actually had the opportunity; the Vice Chairman collar (Silver) was given to me by Ron Pavey at least 16 years ago but the Chairman's collar (Gold, of course) was handed to the Historians only last year and both will be mounted in the Museum once that opens. Because of the hallmarking on one of the items, it is thought they date to at least the early 1960s.
