WALK ON!

With the imminent opening of the American Express Community Stadium, the Supporters' Club is inviting fans to pay tribute to our former home, the Goldstone Ground, by walking all the way from Hove Park to Falmer – via Withdean!

More than fourteen years after the old ground was taken from us, we are at last able to bid it farewell on our own terms and move on to a bright new future.

Tim Carder has put together a self-guided route pamphlet, pointing out places of Albion interest along the way. The route is his idea of the best way between the three venues, but be warned that it is 6.4 miles long and involves climbing the hill over Hollingbury between Withdean and Falmer. It will take probably two to three hours.

Note also that there is no organised event – no stewards, no refreshments, no first-aid, no transport. For each of us it will be a personal journey to remember the Goldstone in our own way and at our own convenient time.

You might like to do it before your first game at The Amex, perhaps before the Sussex Senior Cup final (16 July), the official stadium opening (30 July) or the first Football League game (6 August); or it might be at another time completely.

The walk starts in the south-west corner of Hove Park, at the new Goldstone Heritage Board which is to be unveiled at 10am on Saturday, 30 July.

You can download the pamphlet  HERE  as an A4 PDF (Adobe Reader) file. Alternatively, email tim.carder@virgin.net and he will put a printed booklet in the post to you. There is no charge, but contributions are invited towards the cost of the Goldstone Heritage Board.

Anyone wishing to contribute to that project can do so via Barclays Bank account 60937320, sort code 20-20-62, in the name of “Goldstone Heritage Fund”. Cheques or postal orders should sent to John Kirkland, 32 Buchans Lawn, Crawley RH15 9NZ, or handed to Tim.

If you should make the journey, enjoy it – it’s been a long time coming!
